From: Doug Blaskco Date: 9/01/2007 13:37 PDT I just wanted to pass along to you our observations. My family and I, along with a couple of friends, went out to Robertson Park in Livermore to observe the shower. We began at 3:45 am and ended at 5:15 am. We were only able to count 31. Most of the events were blue-green in color with trails that persisted for 3 or 4 seconds. The trails all had a glittery shimmering effect. We were also able to observe several fireballs, yellow in color with blue-green trails which lasted for also 3 to 4 seconds. The grand event of the evening came around 5:10 am low in the east. We saw one moving from east to south that skipped on the outer atmosphere. We were able to see 4 skips and what looked like the object skipping back out into space. AWESOME! Although most came from the general area of Auriga, many were seen far from the constellation. The skip for instance started below the Orion Nebula and proceded to the south. This was my daughter Rebeccas (age 9) first shower and she and her friend were absolutely delighted with the statement "When's the next one?". Hopefully we have a new astronomer in the making. We ended the event with a trip to ihop for breakfast and meet other observers while we were there. And a great time was had by all. Happy Observing.
