From: Rick Wasson Date: 9/01/2007 15:45 PDT My brief observations seem pretty consistent with the Aurigid MAC flight report. I observed from my backyard in Hacienda Heights, California, about 20 miles east of Los Angeles, at longitude 118 W, latitude 34 N, between about 11:05 UT and 12:30 UT. The sky was clear, with stars to about mag 4 visible in bright moonlight, but only about 20% - 30% of the sky was visible due to trees. A total of 7 Aurigids were observed, and no sporadic meteors. The first meteor was seen about 1 minute after starting to observe, with 4 more through about 11:20 UT. Last one was about 11:45 UT, then no more through 12:30 UT. My sense was that the peak was near or before I started observing. They were all bright, roughly mag +2 to -2 range, and very fast. Some had trails lasting about a second or less. The radiant seemed to be about 5 -10 degrees south-east from Capella, in the neighborhood of theta Aurigae. I have observed the Perseids and Leonids several times, but this is the first time I have reported any meteor observations. Rick Wasson
